hacker\culture_

This is a difficult site to describe in a few lines. I suppose that you could simply call it a first person retelling of hacking in the early '90s. On it's most basic level, I suppose that's all it is.

However, the site offers more than just that. It's clean, but in some ways disorganized design allows you the opportunity to fall down the rabbit hole with the author. If you have a website here at Neocities, and you have never been to this site, you owe it to yourself to check it out. You'll thank me for it later.

Besides the nostalgic value of the place, there are many resources here that also bear some mention. Be sure to look in every nook and cranny.

WinWorldPC

This place is a great archival site when you are looking for something that maybe has become very obscure. Need a Windows 98 SE ISO? Maybe you want to relive the glory days when you were typing up that term paper on your incredibly niche BeBox, and need another copy of BeOS. Whatever it is, they probably have it.

"WinWorld is an online museum dedicated to the preservation and sharing of vintage, abandoned, and pre-release software. We offer information, media and downloads for a wide variety of computers and operating systems.

Our entire library is free, open and available to everyone. Whether you're looking to go down memory lane and re-visit classic versions of Windows, do some research on computing history, or repurpose an old system that can't run the latest and greatest, we aim to be your number one source of top-quality information and downloads that other sites simply can't compare with. Get classic operating systems, applications, games and betas for every platform from PC to Mac to Amiga, right here from the software library on WinWorld.

If you'd like to learn more about the history of WinWorld, check out our About page. Otherwise head on over to the forums or IRC and say hello! "

Hack This Site

I will just let the site itself do the talking. I mean, I really couldn't have said it better myself -

"HackThisSite.org is a free, safe and legal training ground for hackers to test and expand their ethical hacking skills with challenges, CTFs, and more. Active since 2003, we are more than just another hacker wargames site. We are a living, breathing community devoted to learning and sharing ethical hacking knowledge, technical hobbies, programming expertise, with many active projects in development. Join our IRC, Discord, and our forums where users can discuss hacking, network security, and more. Tune in to the hacker underground and get involved with the project!"

Hackaday

Ah, yes. What would our world be without the endless shenanigans and hardware hackery afoot over at Hackaday? I think it was sometime in 2009 when I first discovered the website. I remember it was back when Lifehacker still had tech articles. I was smitten immediately. So many interesting projects, so much technical goodness.

One of the more interesting things that has been taking my attention is their section dedicated to cyberdecks. I have been endlessly entertained by the recent attention to DIY cyberdecks ala William Gibson and ShadowRun. No, I haven't built one yet, but I have been giving it serious thought.

If you are into programming, electronics, hardware hacking or anything remotely cyberpunk/hackerish you should do yourself a solid, and zip over to thir website and revel in the glory. Subscribe to their RSS feed with your favorite RSS aggregator, or subscribe to the podcast.
